Honoree Workout

Sunday May 24th was a great workout.

I swam 2 miles in lake Del Valle in Livermore and then followed up with a 10 mile trail run.

After our workout our team had a BBQ with our inspiring honorees.
I've been on teams with 3 of them for many years now. They are awesome.

Lauren Bishopp and her family (last summer I asst. coached a team her parents were on, they did a tri as well), Matt Rhodes (who is a rock star tri guy as well swam and ran with us as well) and Frank Andrews (who is doing Ironman Louisville with the team) were all there for our workout and BBQ.
Great day and great reminder why we put ourselves through so much time and effort and endurance to reach the finish line. Seems easy to do an Ironman compared to the honorees I've come to know over the years and what they have gone through battling Leukemia. They are quite inspiring.

Thanks again to all my fundraisers for their support. I couldn't do it without you!

Does a Tahoe Weekend Vacation count as Ironman Training?!

I'd say yes when it includes an 85 mile bike, 15 mile run and 1 mile swim. Spent last weekend in Tahoe with some of my triathlon friends.

Vacation in tahoe when training for an Ironman is certainly not sitting around the lake and having cockatils...... (although we did have one or two!)

Rode around lake Tahoe from Squaw Valley on Saturday, 85 miles, beautiful ride, and of course hilly, Perfect weather for a bike ride. Ran 2 miles after the bike to make sure my legs would work. Felt great!! Can't imagine 24 more miles, but I'll get there.

Sunday, we did, what my friend Chris called a "short rolling hills trail run", and it ended up being 15 miles and either up hill or down hills, it certainly wasn't rollling but on a beautiful trail.

Then we finished off with a swim in lake Tahoe. Beautiful. Wore my wetsuit of course!

Certainly an "Iron Up" weekend.

Wildflower 1/2 Iron Man - May 2, 2009

The weekend started off sketchy with on and off rain on Thursday night and Friday. Luckily it cleared for the race on Saturday.

My start time was 9am, for the old guys, 45-49 wave! 1/2 Ironman, 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.

Check it at this link: http://www.tricalifornia.com/index.cfm/Wildflower2009-course_descriptions_long_course.htm Just a couple of hills in there!!
I tried to take it easy and make sure I had enough left at the finish line to keep going.
That's the goal right? I have to double the distance for Ironman Louisville in August.

I felt great. 6 hours and 12 minutes! I'll take it.

Here's a team picture of Team Shadow. Team Shadow is our infamous "double top secret" team for when we are not on an official Team in Training team. It was our 1st official team shadow race. And oh yeah, don't forget to check out our team blow up friend "Daisy".

Love a great open water swim...

Here's a picture from one of our open water swims on April 26th.

Quite an awesome group, right?!

A wetsuit is a wonderful thing.
Bummer we can't wear one for Ironman Louisville, it'll be too hot for that. Oh well. Swam almost 2 miles and felt great.

Even better eating some awesome food afterwards....
