A 6 1/2 hour workout??

The Saturday before Christmas we had a 6 1/2 hour workout!

What happened to holiday cheer and eating for a workout?
It's the holiday season after all.

We had strength training, a bike skills workout, and 3 hours of multiple bike/runs.

It was all in the Presidio in SF on a cold, clear and beautiful day.

So, it was worth it. We live in such a beautiful place.

One Marathon Down, Many more miles to go....

I have now completed a marathon. Here is our start picture at the right.

The finisher medal is awesome! Had I known that, I might have done one years earlier. OK, maybe not.

It was a super cold and foggy day in Folsom when we started, perfect for running.
The course ran through neighborhoods from Folsom down to the state Capitol in downtown Sacramento.

About 12 of us all started together. Dave, Jess and I trained together and then ran together.
All our other "fast" friends were way out in front of us.
Our 9 minute run/1 minute walk strategy totally paid off about mile 18 when we started to blow past most people. It was a great boost of encouragement.

The last 2 miles were tough, but the crowds were awesome.
Finished, 4 hrs and 28 minutes. Pretty much where I expected.

Slept for 12 hours on Sunday night and a day later pretty much back to normal.
I guess I need to start swimming and biking now as we are training for an Ironman in August '09. I'll do that this weekend, for now I'm eating and doing NOTHING!

1 Down, 9 to go....

One month down, Swam approx. 24000 yards, biked 120 miles, spun on the trainer for about 4 1/2 hours, and Ran 88.3 miles. Only 9 more months to go!

Off to a great start.

The Cal International Marathon (CIM) is this Sunday 12/7.
Ready as I'll ever be. Can't wait to see how I do.
Thanks to everyone's support I've raised a little over $5000 thus far. Not bad for month one!
Stay tuned.....

Ironman Holiday Fundraiser, completed with style

Well it's all relative what style might be. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?!

Dave, Ted, Jess and I hosted a "festive holiday sweater" party to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of our Iron Man.

It was a HUGE success, about 100 people attended, cocktails, appetizers, dessert auction, raffle prizes and of course the best dressed prize.

We raised $2500 + for LLS! It was awesome.

Here's our picture in our handmade Santa sweatshirts, they are swim, bike, run and finish Santa's, of course.

Just Keep Spinning

Every other Tuesday @ 6:30 the east bay contingent of our team sets up our bikes on trainers in front of Sports Basement in Walnut Creek to spin. Our coach Dave leads an outdoor spin class.

He plays some random music, quizes us on who the artist is to keep our minds away from the workout. I never guess the artist and win the prize. But my cadence and bike drills are improving. That's the point I guess. Come out an visit if you're in the WC on a Tuesday night.

OK, I was #1 at kick off - THANK YOU!!

I was #1, but not for any time trial for swim,
bike or run, but for fundraising! I'll take it.

I was awarded a bobble head of our head coach Wayne!!

I made it through day one/kick off for Iron Team on Nov 8th and had the most $s raised so far for anyone on our team. $3967 so far on a goal of $8000.

A big THANK YOU to everyone so far.

We're off and training..... stay tuned.

Happy Halloween 20.2 Miles Later...

Just did 20 miles with Dave on Friday as I knew I would not want to run on Saturday after Halloween. Did 10 mile loop and then refueled for a couple of minutes in the parking lot and then did the 10 mile loop again. Did fine, don't know about 6.2 more, but am sure I can make it.
2652 calories, total time 3:21:47, 10:04 average pace. I think I'll shoot for a 4:30 marathon, we'll see. Iron Man kick off is this Saturday!!! Counting down to Louisville.

Another week of pretty much running.
Got a couple of swims in there.....
Did 17.1 miles on Saturday 10/18, started a little late and it was hot!
85 degress in October, got to love California!
Made it, but slower that I would have liked.
It's all about endurance right?!
Only 2 more weeks until we start to officially train for Ironman. YIKES!

17.1 miles

OK just ran 17.1 miles Saturday 10/11 with Dave and Jess.
Ted was way too far in front of us so we really never saw him.....

OK 26.2 doesn't seem to far as I made it through 17.1. At least it's flat.

Ran 43.6 for the week, I think I'm NUTS.
Can't wait to see what our weekly numbers are for Ironman training.

It's official

OK I've done it.....
Somewhere during the last 4 years with Team in Training I’ve been brainwashed. I’ve signed up for Ironman Louisville on August 30th, 2009! Holy #*&%!! What am I thinking?

Training doesn't start until November 8th.
Just finished Big Kahuna 1/2 Ironman on September 7th.
Currently training for the California International Marathon on December 7th.
A marathon, YIKES! Got to start somewhere....
Ran 16 miles last Saturday the have to run 8 more this Saturday and 15 more on Sunday....
Can't wait.

Oh, and can't believe I actually created a blog as well!!
